Es el año 1989, Joseph Joestar llega a Japón para conocer a su problemático nieto Jotaro Kujo por petición de su hija Holly. Jotaro está encerrado en una celda por haberle dado a una paliza a 3 hombres, su condena ya ha terminado pero él se rehúsa a salir, alegando que un espíritu maligno lo poseyó . Sin embargo, Joseph le revela a Jotaro: este “espíritu” es un “Stand”, una manifestaciónfísica del alma. Además, Joseph y su compañero Mohammed Avdol poseen sus propios Stands y han aprendido a controlarlos. La llegada de Joseph viene con otra noticia: un antiguo enemigo de la familia ha regresado de la tumba, lo que provocó el despertar de los Stands en la familia Joestar. Sin embargo, cuando el Stand de Holly se manifiesta, ya que no tiene la suficiente fuerza de voluntad como su hijo y padre, provoca que su propio Stand la este matando lentamente. Avdol determina que morirá en 50 días a menos a que maten a ese viejo enemigo para romper su influencia. Con ello embarcan su viaje intercontinental de Japón a Egipto donde se encuentra su enemigo. Pasando por varios usuarios de Stand enemigos en su camino y encontrando nuevos aliados. Liderando una cruzada para salvar a Holly y terminar con ese mal que los ha atormentado durante más de 100 años.
